Year 11 PPEs - February 2024
The upcoming Year 11 Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs) will be taking place for all Year 11 students from the week beginning 19th February 2024 until 1st March 2024. It is important to note that some examinations such as: MFL Speaking, Art and Photography, may be outside this timeframe.
Year 10 PPEs - June 2024
The upcoming Year 10 Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs) will be taking place for all Year 10 students from the week beginning 24th June 2024 until 5th July 2024. It is important to note that some examinations such as: MFL Speaking, Art and Photography, may be outside this timeframe. The examinations may not happen on every day as we will be continuing to hold formal GCSE examinations for the Year 11 cohort.
PPE Information
PPEs are important as they will give your child the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the format and content of GCSE papers and formal examination arrangements. The PPEs will also provide your child’s subject teachers with a clear indication of your child’s current academic performance. It is vital that your child fully prepares for these examinations as these will yield essential information about your child’s areas of strength, weaknesses and misconceptions at an individual level in the subjects they study.
It is essential that your child prepares in advance and follows a thorough revision programme. The school will provide your child with a PPE timetable and a booklet on strategies for revision with useful ideas for revision and preparing for exams. Your child must:
- Study the exam timetable carefully and fully personalise it.
- Prepare a revision timetable
- Read through the exam preparation booklet
- Get the right balance between revision and leisure time.
As a parent or carer, do:
- Discuss with your child what revision they are completing each day.
- Provide the environment necessary for success. Ideally, your child needs a quiet, well-lit place to study with interruptions kept to a minimum when they are working.
- Give plenty of praise and encouragement
- Encourage your child to take regular breaks during long periods of revision.
- Encourage morning revision when the brain is more receptive and discourage studying right up to bedtime.
For each exam, your child must have the correct equipment. This includes the items listed below:
- Pens (Black ink only)
- Pencils
- Highlighters
- Ruler
- Eraser
- Scientific calculator
- Geometry set
These items must be placed in a clear pencil case, through which the contents can be seen. Your child may also bring a water bottle into the exam hall but this must be clear with no labels.
We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing the simple examination regulations below. This is to avoid the possibility of your child being disqualified from any of their examinations.
- No mobile phones or smartwatches should be taken into the examination room – if your child’s telephone rings in the examination hall, this will result in an instant disqualification.
- Pupils must wear full school uniform and the correct footwear.
- Lateness to an examination is not tolerated. Your child may not be able to sit the examination if they are late.
- Your child must attend each exam, as there will be no further opportunities except for extreme circumstances.
Please take careful note of the contents of this letter and ensure that no appointments are made during this period so that your child can be in full and punctual attendance.
